1. What is Neuropathy?
Neuropathy is a condition that affects both your sensory and motor nerves, both of these detect sensations in the body such as heat, coldness, tingling and pain. Neuropathic pain can also turn into a chronic pain, leaving the patients often feeling like their nerve fibers may be damaged, injured or dysfunctional. Further, due to the fact that these nerves have become so damaged they can send the wrong signals to other pain centers.
2. How can it affect you?
Often times neuropathy gives off a pain that can be described as a tingling or burning sensation in the hands and feet. Most of the time patients experience symptoms such as shooting pains, numbness and tingling and if left untreated can cause permanent damage that can lead to amputation of the affected area.
3. What causes Neuropathy?
Neuropathy has no obvious cause, however the most common causes include: Amputation, Diabetes, HIV or AIDS, Alcoholism, Spine surgeries and shingles.
