Functional Medicine Benefits Kids Too...

What Functional Medicine means to your child's life...
To help your child achieve optimal health, it's vital to make informed choices. At World of Wellness it is imperative to implement the principles of functional medicine at an early age.  Most parents know the importance of providing a healthy habits that lead to a healthier lifestyle for their child early on. As your child grows, nutrition and physical activity become more vital in becoming the primary building blocks in creating a healthy future. Functional Medicine provides the fundamentals associated with a  fully balanced child and it also leads you to make the most holistic choices for your child. By working with a functional medicine expert you are making one of the most important and informed decisions for your child. Further, by starting early on in your child's life you're applying imperative principles of disease prevention, noninvasive treatments as well as self healing.
Functional Medicine is the gentle adjustment of neurological and metabolic imbalances using natural techniques and fundamental viewpoints to restore optimal health within the body. By utilizing innovative and turnkey services we are able to treat illness and promote wellness. The goal of Functional Medicine is to support the body in its own healing processes by understanding a child's genetics, physiology and environment. Diseases and other imbalances can be prevented by seeing a functional medicine physician on a regular basis. Further, long-term imbalances that are left untreated will and can turn into chronic diseases. Today, society says to take prescription pills for any

Clients come to us because we care and they want to get healthy and feel better.  Diseases don’t just happen overnight.  Long-term imbalances, left untreated, become chronic diseases; often times created from poor nutrition, lifestyle and emotional habits, which ultimately diminish the quality of your life.  Drug therapies commonly used to treat diseases become long-term band-aid approaches and at times cause problems of their own-never addressing the underlying cause of imbalance.
“Upstream medicine” explains the principles of Functional Medicine. It’s the intervention at a point where imbalances become apparent and adjustments to influencing factors and triggers, such as nutritional, exercise and lifestyle habits, are made before they create dis-ease in the body.

…We intervene upstream rather than letting you go over the falls
Your visit may be as simple as starting you on the path of understanding what your body needs for proper nutrition and exercise. Or, it may involve laboratory testing to look deeper into your physiology. Understanding metabolism is as unique as your fingerprint; we tailor programs to fit your body’s needs.
Working in partnership with you, lifestyle changes are made that allow you to be in charge of improving your health and changing the outcome of disease.
If you are seeking to enhance your health along with balance and harmony in your life, The Metabolic Institute knows how to support you in taking the first step.

What would you do?

What would you do today if you went to see your physician and upon meeting with him/her all that was said was,  "Sorry, we don't prescribe medications anymore.  Further no physician in the United States does either." Panic or start researching on what else you could do or options you may have.

“Conventional medicine is like a carpenter that only has a hammer to work with, while functional medicine doctors are working with a full toolkit,” says the author of From Fatigued to Fantastic, National Medical Director of Fibromyalgia & Fatigue Centers, Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, of Kona, Hawaii.

Conventional Medicine vs. Functional Medicine

If you rely on conventional medicine you are 100% relying on addressing the symptoms rather than looking for a solution to treat the actual source of the problem. What we have found as functional medicine experts, the majority of people living in the United States are taking a pill to relieve one symptom that only creates another symptom within the human body as a whole. We want our patients to live a long and healthy life without the use of harsh chemicals or prescription pills. Further, the benefits of functional medicine allow our experts to review and address any one patient's deficiencies, biochemical dysfunctions, environmental factors and more.  What does that mean to you? It means we area able to find the reason or source as to why you make be taking several different medications every day.

How would you feel if you could go an ENTIRE DAY without having to take a prescription pill?

I'm sure it would be LIFE CHANGING, literally. The majority of cases that we see here in our Fort Worth, Arlington and Waco Functional Medicine offices are that if we can find the underlying cause of the symptom, we can solve the problem permanently.

Functional medicine allows us to create a balance in the body as a whole by looking at several very important factors to help return the body back to balance:

* Allergies
* Nutrition
* Hormones
* Detoxification
* Metabolism

We already know that 98% of American's are living at an unhealthy functional level. Our goal at World of Wellness is to help you upgrade your current state of health with fresh, innovative techniques. Thomas Edison once said, "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest her or his patients in the care of the human frame, in a proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease."

Case in point:

What do you want in your life? How do you plan to obtain it? Are you unhappy with your chronic back pain? Are you sick of living with it yet or has it just become a "normality" in your life? Point, these are all rhetorical questions.

WELCOME 2013!!! - World of Wellness

Welcome 2013!

We've all been asked the infamous question, "What is your New Years Resolution?" For some, resolutions mean sincere change, hard work and more. However, for some the very thought of them is similar to the sound of nails on a chalkboard. We have to ask our ourselves, why? Are we scared of change or are we scared of the possibility that we could fail at our goal? The key to achieving any goal is starting small by writing down an achievable goal and persistence! No matter how many small "baby steps" you take every day, each day you grow closer to a total breakthrough!

I hear many people say, "If I could just lose 10 lbs I could finally be happy." Most of the time I find myself thinking, well what steps are you willing to take to lose the 10 lbs and further why aren't you happy as you are right now. Whether or not the person knows it or not, they WANT change, they want to embrace a new way of life. So, my goal in writing this blog is to write about goals, resolutions and tips on how World of Wellness can help you obtain your goals for 2013.

1. Write your Goal down!

I have seen more success with friends, family and work out partners that are willing to write a goal down.

EX:
* I want to lose weight to fit in my old "skinny jeans."
* I want to quit smoking.
* I want to feel 5 years younger.

I suggest either buying a small cork-board or simply taking a piece of paper, cutting it into 4 parts and writing YOUR goal down on each of the 4 pieces of paper. Now, here is where the key is! Place one piece of the paper by your bed so that each night when you go to sleep and each morning you wake up you look at your goal. Don't forget to read it out loud! (Even if it feels funny, statistics show someone who repeats a goal everyday will have a higher success rate by reading a goal out loud). Secondly, place the second quarter of paper on your bathroom mirror so that each time you walk in you see your goal. The most successful individuals read a written goal down out loud multiple times a day. Take the third piece of paper and put in in your car,so that each time you're driving somewhere you can take time to think about your goal and the positive ways you will achieve it. Re-affirm the goal as many times a day as possible! Finally, take the fourth piece of paper and take it to work with you. Once co-workers, friends and family know you have set a goal, your success rate will skyrocket!

2. Be willing to be honest with yourself.
As my Mom once told me, "If hard work were easy, then everyone would do it!" So true! Goals aren't always easy to obtain, however that's where the beauty lays. Each day you grow closer to your goal, you will feel better and proud that you're choosing to work for what you want!

3. To be healthy, you have to live a healthy lifestyle.
Yes, exercise and eating properly are important! World of Wellness tailors nutritional plans to patients looking to look and feel better in 2013! In today's society junk food is accepted as a "normality." If you're wondering why you may feel fatigued or tired in the middle of the day, you may want to consider that double cheeseburger, fries and a coke that you had earlier. Remember what Mom says? "You are what you eat!"

5. Reward yourself with all Goals.
Let 2013 be the year you obtain your wellness goals. Each time you make it a step closer to one of your small benchmarks, celebrate! (Make sure this is something that isn't jeopardizing your success). No matter what your goal is, make it fun and start small.

2013 will be the year when you achieve steady, sustainable growth in all aspects of your life. Pick up the phone today and see how we can help you TODAY!

Do you hear that ringing in your Ears? Those are not jingle bells!

Tinnitus is commonly described as a ringing in the ears, but some people also hear it as a roaring, clicking, hissing or buzzing. It may be soft or loud, and it might affect both of your ears or only one. For some people, it's a minor annoyance. For others, it can interfere with sleep and grow to be a source of mental and emotional anguish.*

Each year about 1 in 10 adults nationwide has an episode of tinnitus that lasts longer than 3 months. Tinnitus isn't a disease. Instead, it's a symptom that something is wrong with your auditory system. The problem may exist somewhere in your ear, in the nerve that connects the inner ear to the brain or in the parts of the brain that make sense of sounds. But somehow, the networks of nerve cells that process sounds have been thrown out of balance in a way that creates the illusion of sound where there is none. Because tinnitus can arise from so many conditions, ranging from hearing loss to high blood pressure to medications, diagnosing the cause or causes can be a challenge.*

Tinnitus facts

  • Tinnitus is NOT A NORMAL ear noise.
  • Tinnitus can arise in any of the four sections of the ear: the brain, the inner, middle or outer ear.
  • It is not a single disease, but a symptom of a possibly serious underlying condition
  • In almost 40 million cases, all patients can hear the noise.
  • Exposure to loud noise is one of the most common causes of tinnitus and it can often be damaging to your hearing altogether.
  • World of Wellness can help you with the ringing noise you may be experiencing in your ears.

What's Functional Medicine? Caution! Paradigm Shift AHEAD!!!!

Caution! Paradigm Shift AHEAD!!!!You've been warned...

Recently, I have been posting about a variety of topics that are affecting millions of American's every single day and night. Today, I really want to touch more on functional medicine today and inform all of our readers how this paradigm shift is going to change lives FOREVER in such a positive way

This will bold of me to say, however I have to say it. I feel that we have been placed in chairs with our hands tied and blindfolded in regards to healthcare. We are taught if something is wrong that we need to immediately pop a pill to make everything better. You've got a headache? Society says, "Here take a pain killer and the "problem" will just go away..." The question is, what's the real reason you're having the headache? Further, why are you OK with taking a medication on a daily basis to treat a chronic pain when it only temporarily helps with the problem?

We all know that we are made up with one brain, a central nervous system and one spine. Your brain is so complex that most can't even comprehend the power that lays in between your two ears. What I would like to invite our readers to think about today is this; when you experience pain & pleasure or see something beautiful your brain is firing automatic responses throughout your body from your brain... So, let's imagine for a moment that you could be experiencing pain in your lower back and it's bothering you on a daily basis... You now find yourself taking the pills daily but nothing really helps the pain in your lower back. OK, let's now take a step back. If you're taking pills to temporarily "fix" the pain, something tells me that either you don't want to get rid of the problem or you just like temporary quick fixes. If you want to stop taking the pills and find the solution to your lower back pain, call one of our Dallas/Fort Worth offices TODAY. We can help you FIX the problem without having to take pills on a daily basis. Plus, don't you want to feel better than before you allowed this pain to be a normality in your life?

(817) 877 5353 • Summit Ave, Fort Worth, TX (817) 263 9700 • Hulen St., Fort Worth, TX (817) 265 5200 • Arlington, TX

Maybe your not completely sold on the idea of functional medicine? Let me push the envelope a little further. Our offices are fully staffed with a team of experts that will offer you a FREE consultation to review any symptoms you currently may be experiencing. Examples include:

1. Low Back Pain
2. Neck Pain
3. Pain Between the Shoulder Blades
4. Tension/Headaches

18. Tingling/Numbing in the legs/feet

If you have any of the above symptoms and conditions then you could be suffering from STRUCTURAL ALIGNMENT, PINCHED NERVES, TRIGGER POINTS and EXCESSIVE STRESS. World of Wellness can help you because our Doctors treat the body gently, naturally and without the use of harsh chemicals.

Functional medicine is about finding the source of the problem, disease or condition and treating it based on the individual patient's needs. All of our treatment plans are 100% tailored to that particular patients problem areas or needs. We are not a "one-size-fits all" office and can only offer you the best possible treatment that essentially can allow you to live a long and healthier life. I feel very passionately that we are over medicating our citizens, rather than giving them the opportunity to utilize a safer & holistic option. You don't have to live with the pain or suffering. Let us offer you the opportunity to live life again.

High Blood Pressure - Is it affecting your life?

Hypertension or better known as high blood pressure effects one in every four people... That's right, look around the room right now. One in every FOUR people are affected by high blood pressure! That's over 1 billion people worldwide and 50 million in the United States. Billions of dollars are spent every year on prescription pills to "help" individuals that experience high blood pressure. These prescribed pills are supposed to alleviate  high blood pressure, however most have more side effects. For instance, fever, dizziness, loss of sex drive, headache and rapid heart beat are just a few to name.*

High blood pressure is determined by utilizing a sphygmomanometer (High Blood Pressure Meter.) It's composed of an inflatable cuff to restrict blood flow and a mechanical monometer to measure the pressure. Blood pressure can also be calculated by utilizing a manual sphygmomanometer in conjuction with a stethoscope. Typically a normal blood pressure is 120 over 80.

120 (Systolic)
 80  (Diastolic)

There are many contributing factors to having high blood pressure, such as; cholesterol build up in the veins, smoking, alcohol consumption and lack of exercise. (These are just to name a few!) If high blood pressure is left untreated in the body, it can lead to early problems with your heart. Ex: Heart Attacks and even death.

If you or someone you know is living with high blood pressure, call one of our offices today so that we can schedule a free consultation today!!!

****Your loved one's WILL thank you for living a longer & healthier life!****

*This article lists the side effects that may be caused by each type of high blood pressure drug. First, here are four general warnings.

  1. Never stop taking medication without first talking to your doctor. In some cases, this can be very dangerous, causing a big spike in blood pressure.
  2. If you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant, talk to your doctor about the safest medication to use. ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers(ARBs) can cause harmful side effects for pregnant women and their developing babies.
  3. If you take insulin for diabetes, talk to your doctor. Changes in blood sugar can occur in people with diabetes taking diuretics or beta blockers for high blood pressure.
  4. If you have problems with erections during sex, talk with your doctor.Some high blood pressure medications can cause this problem. Reducing the dose or changing to another type of medication may help. But high blood pressure itself can also cause erectile dysfunction.

Restless Legs Syndrome - How is it affecting your life?

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) can be emotionally and physically exhausting. Those creepy crawly compulsive leg movements can rob you of your sleep and leave you feeling tired, cranky and fatigued. Loss of sleep at night decreases your productivity levels at work and can even affect the amount of focus you have throughout the day.
Mot likely, if you have been suffering from (RLS) your doctor has probably tried to prescribe multiple prescriptions to help you sleep at night. These medications can have serious side effects and will not work for everyone. The most common side effects are dizziness upon standing, nausea, hallucinations, problems sleeping, constipation and trouble concentrating. Honestly, who wants those type of side effects in the first place?! You may have tried herbal remedies, acupuncture and liniments only to find no solution to the problem or cause.
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke states some conditions associated with restless legs syndrome (RLS) have been known to be associated with obesity, smoking, pregnancy, iron deficiency, hypothyroidism and kidney disease. Alcohol and caffeine have also been associated with (RLS.)
If you are someone you know is suffering on a nightly basis from Restless Leg Syndrome, please contact us today for a FREE consultation.

Menstrual Headaches & Migraines

Did you know that headaches & migraines can be linked to your menstrual cycle?

Headaches can occur during, before or at the very end of your menstrual cycle, generally speaking these headaches will occur around the same time of the month. At World of Wellness, our primary focus is to use a personalized approach in conjunction with functional medicine to offer our patients the most innovative care possible. You may be wondering what functional medicine is.. Not to worry, functional medicine is a new and innovative approach to personalized medicine and health care.

It has been estimated that 70% of migraine sufferers are female. Of these female migraine sufferers, 60%-70% report that their migraines are related to their menstrual cycles -- hence the name, menstrual migraines.*

To diagnose and and treat menstrual migraines, we have to look at the patients history and age. We look at the patients medical history, headache patterns and if the patient is utilizing a birth control method that may be causing a hormonal imbalance. Generally speaking, one in every three women are aware of a connection between headaches and their menstrual cycle due to hormonal changes. Hormones such as progesterone & estrogen play key roles in controlling the menstrual cycle and pregnancies. Further, they both may affect headache-related chemicals in the brain. If you're estrogen levels are lower or irregular you may be experiencing headaches more often than someone who has a steady estrogen level.

Our offices have doctors that can help prevent and treat menstrual & migraine headaches. Come into one of our offices today for a free headache consultation today!
